 Civil 3D Designer III / Design Manager


General Characteristics

Kahuna is looking for a motivated Civil 3D Designer II or III to manage our Civil 3D Design Department. The qualified candidate must have a moderate to advanced technical ability with AutoCAD Civil 3D as well as good management and interpersonal skills.

General experience and knowledge of land development design process and grading for industrial, mining, and oil & gas application is a must.  Additionally, the following are requirements of the position:


Qualifications and Experiences

  • Expertise in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Typically has 5+ years of progressive design experience or equivalent.
  • Land development and industrial /mining/ oil & gas grading experience required.
  • College and drafting/CAD courses preferred.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Ability to write LISP routines preferred.
  • 2+ year of management experience.
  • Certified Project Manager Professional preferred but not required.


Essential Technical Characteristics - AutoCAD Civil 3D Design

  • Has a moderate to advanced technical ability with AutoCAD C3D.
  • Has the ability to create involved grading drawing packages.
  • Has the ability to create complex surfaces, grading plans, profiles, corridors, and can use sheet manager.
  • Has the ability to design and prepare drawings in a timely manner.
  • Has the ability to create templates, styles and drawing standards.


Essential Characteristics – Management

  • Support designers as needed and act as a resource to answer Civil 3D design questions.
  • Responsible for reviewing and redlining civil grading design drawings.
  • Displays strong knowledge of civil grading design workflow.
  • Ability to estimate how much time a design effort will require and plan accordingly, providing adequate time for unexpected developments and issues.
  • Ability to oversee and track multiple project with an emphasis on quality and schedule.
  • The ability to assign tasks and delegate.
  • Solid organizational skills.
  • Strong ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • The ability to work efficiently while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Interface with clients and project managers as needed to accommodate requests.
  • Has the ability to work with other managers and team members to optimize and innovate team performance.
  • Good social and communication skills.
  • Self-starter, displays initiative.
  • Works well individually and as a group.
  • Has a high degree of integrity, honesty and trustworthiness.
  • Able to maintain security and confidentiality.
  • Establish working relationships to maintain a positive and productive work environment internally and externally.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Good leadership skills.


Physical Requirements

This position will constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer in a standard office building environment. Must be able to see well enough to read reports and use a computer. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.  Sitting is regularly required for this position. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds on occasion.  Must be able to hear well enough to communicate on the phone and in person.  Must be able to write, type, and use the phone system.  This position needs to be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery and to communicate with other team members.


Drug Testing and Background Check

This position will require that the candidate pass an initial drug test and background check upon hire. Kahuna is a DOT regulated company, therefore random drug testing while employed by Kahuna Design will occur.
